Rodd Pahl - Bluegrass Consultings founder and managing director has more than 25 years experience in public affairs and corporate strategy, nine of those as a managing director within global PR firm Burson-Marsteller.
Rodd serves a wide variety of private sector and government clients. He advises
leading corporations on complex political and community issues and stakeholder
management.
In 2003 he advised Lend Lease on complex issues and stakeholder management on
retail projects around the country. He provided strategic communications advice
to the ACT Bushfires Recovery Taskforce following Australias most damaging
bushfires, which hit Canberra in January, and to law firm Minter Ellison on
issues and marketing and to Stockland Trust on property development, State and
local government lobbying and community relations.
He has also provided strategic advice on public affairs, issues management and stakeholder engagement to Stanwell Corporation in Queensland, the Australian pipeline industry to effect major change to the regulatory and investment environment, and Macquarie Airports following its acquisition of Sydney Airport.
Before founding Bluegrass, Rodd was a Managing Director with global consultancy Burson Marsteller. In that capacity he led the teams handling communications for the $14.8 billion privatisation of the first tranche of Telstra, the $8 billion Commonwealth Bank final tranche (CBA3), the $300 million CSL sale and that of Aerospace Technologies Australia. He also guided Thompson CSFs successful tender to install Australias new $300 million radar system. Rodd also worked on the global bid support team for US defence contractor Raytheon and helped prepare bids for civil aviation in Ireland, Switzerland and Denmark.
He advised Sydney Airports Corporation Limited, Snowy Hydro Trading Company and the Port of Brisbane Corporation on public affairs, brand and strategic business and political issues and Bell Helicopter on its successful bidding strategy for a major Defence contract in Turkey. He also advised the Copyright Agency on the issue of copyright within Australia, and United Medical Protection on political and media issues.
Margaret Keneally has fifteen years experience in media, public relations,
and public affairs.
She has worked as a newspaper and radio journalist in Europe and Australia,
and has advised financial services, corporate, IT and NGO clients on public
relations, public affairs, issues management, crisis management, government,
stakeholder and investor relations.
In 1997, Margaret co-founded MDK Communications, of which she was managing director. Clients included MasterCard International, Wizard Mortgage Corporation, Thomas Cook, Sega World, Darling Walk, CARE Australia and Compaq Computer Australia. Her work included the formulation and implementation of public relations strategy, speech writing, government and regulator submission writing and lobbying advice, corporate writing, internal relations, AGM planning, sponsorship leverage and event management.
Margaret sold MDK Communications to CPR Communications and Public Relations in 2000, where she continued to manage the MasterCard account. During this time, she also worked as a freelance speech writer to then NSW Police Commissioner Peter Ryan.
Between 1991 and 1997, Margaret worked as a junior journalist on The Irish Times in Dublin, as a stringer for The London Evening Standard, as a senior reporter on The Daily Telegraph in Sydney, and as a senior executive producer for Radio 2UE, where she worked with Alan Jones, Stan Zemanek and John Stanley, among others. Her work at 2UE earned her a RAWARD, the radio industrys highest award, for Best Off-Air Newcomer.
Margaret began her career as a junior public affairs officer at the Australian Consulate-General in New York.
Nicholas Pahl helped to found Bluegrass Consulting. He brings to the firm a deep knowledge of marketing, information technology, public participation and stakeholder management. He carries out community, issue and political research and analysis for our campaigns including Lend Lease, PricewaterhourseCoopers, Stanwell Corporation, Macquarie Airports and the Australian Pipeline Industry Association.
He has researched, planned and implemented innovative public participation programs around major property developments for Lend Lease Retail and Stockland Group Trust. He holds a certificate is a Member of the International Association of Public Participation.
He has developed key opinion leader databases for Lend Lease assets and has helped facilitate community consultation programs, working sessions between asset managers, local government representatives and key opinion leaders.
Frankie Rowe has experience across a wide range of corporate communication disciplines, particularly in financial communication, issues management and communication strategy and planning. Previously working for global consultancy Burson-Marsteller, Frankie has worked with numerous clients on both specific projects and long term retainers. During her time at Burson-Marsteller Frankie developed a Communication Plan for Bankstown Airport, and was responsible for working with community and local government to apply Lend Lease's Community Charter principles to a number of their retail shopping centre assets. She was also part of the team that advised SingTel on their successful acquisition of Cable & Wireless Optus, and has worked with Morgan Stanley for over two years on their corporate communications in Australia.
Frankie has also worked for a small boutique communication consultancy specialising
in consumer products, including Ericsson, Robinson's baby food, Tommy Hilfiger
and Strongbow cider. Here she developed skills in event management (involved
in organising the first event ever held at Telstra Australia) and media relations.
Frankie has a strong interest in sustainable investing and corporate social
responsibility. She has a degree in Communications from the University of Technology,
Sydney, and has also completed a course in financial markets and economics at
the Securities Institute.
Linda Gill has worked in public and private sector organisations in marketing and communications and across a wide range of industry groups. Linda was Campaign Manager for AQIS and Project Manager for communications and marketing of The New Industries Development Program within AFFA where she was awarded an AFFA Australia Day award.
She has extensive experience in strategic planning and implementation of multi-faceted communications campaigns within government and the private sector. Linda has also worked international advertising agency George Patterson Bates.
She has a sound working knowledge of government procurement processes, and for several years had an advisory role to Federal Government departments and agencies on procurement of communication services, as well as managing direct purchases of large budget consultancy services.
The Hon. Dr Stephen Martin, former Speaker of the House of Representatives (1993 1996), Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (1991 1993), who headed the 1991 Martin Inquiry into the Australian Banking Industry, and former Chairman of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Banking, Finance and Public Administration, and holder of various Shadow portfolios in Opposition since the election of the Howard Government in 1996. He resigned from Federal Parliament in August 2002 and is currently Professorial Fellow - Graduate School of Business, University of Wollongong and Senior Counsel to Bluegrass Consulting.
Chris Downy, former NSW Government Whip (1992 - 93) former NSW Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing (1995 -1997), Manager Community and Government Relations for Federal Airports Corporation (1998), former Head of Corporate and Government Relations for Sydney Airports Corporation Limited (1998 2000), Executive Director Australian Casino Association (2000 2002). Helen Leayr has more than seven years experience in industry representation,
including five years as Executive Director of leading regional development organisation,
the Canberra Business Council. Helen has managed major industry promotion programs
and the delivery of key messages for a range of private and public sector clients.
Helen has extensive industry, government, bureaucratic and media networks, and
is experienced at dealing with all levels of public and private sectors.
Hugh Fraser has a broad range of marketing and public relations experience and knowledge spanning corporate, investor and financial communication; financial services marketing; public and government affairs; issues and crisis communications.
Hugh formed FCC Partners in 2003, having previously been the Managing Director of Burson-Marstellers Corporate and Finance practice in Australia. Assignments Hugh has advised on in 2003 include the successful IPO of Atlas Group, the launch of Asias first specialist broker for the hedge fund industry KE Absolute and the Liquidation of OneTel.
He was lead communications adviser for SingTels successful $14 billion Offer to acquire Cable & Wireless Optus, the largest takeover in Australias history. This involved activity with key financial and trade media, institutional and retail investors, and regulatory and government agencies. In 2000 he handled communications and marketing for the IPO of the Australian Pipeline Trust, the largest retail share issue in Australia for that year.
Since returning to Australia in 1997, Hugh's clients have included AGL, PowerTel and Southcorp. He has also advised on transactions and activity in the TMT, health and biotech sectors.
Hugh worked in Hong Kong from 1994 to 1996, managing the flotation marketing programs of several companies listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He also devised and implemented financial communications programs for Johnson Electric and Citic Pacific.
Over a four year period in the early to mid nineties in Europe, Hugh's responsibilities included developing programs for privitisations in the UK and Eastern Europe, and directing a multi-country brand building program for the Nasdaq Stock Exchange.
